Big'n / End Comes Too Soon / Deluxe Edition / Vinyl LP
Big'n, a legacy noise rock band from Chicago since 1990, features vocalist William Akins, guitarist Todd Johnson, bassist Fred Popolo, and drummer Brian Wnukowski—the embodiment of your favorite unruly, party-loving uncles.
End Comes Too Soon, their first album in 28 years, was recorded at Chicago’s Electrical Audio by Shane Hochstetler in two sessions (March 2023 and April 2024). Fittingly, Side A was recorded in Studio A and Side B in Studio B. Tragically, the album gained unintended poignancy when Steve Albini, whose studio shaped its sound, passed away in May 2024. Though unrelated, the album title now feels like a tribute to Albini, his work, and his legacy.
Big’n’s trademark ferocity remains intact: Brian’s precise, driving drumming, Fred’s metallic basslines that anchor each song, Todd’s guitar full of harmonic grit, and William’s vocals, raw and emotionally intense. Electrical Audio’s hallmark clarity and dynamism amplify their disciplined chaos, making End Comes Too Soon a testament to their enduring power.
Mastered by Carl Saff and with lacquers cut by Ruy Mariné, this release confirms Big’n’s place as timeless noise rock icons.
